Price quotes vary based on the options you order. We have a wide offering of columns, pedestals, porch posts and balusters from major manufacturers. We can custom manufacture items to your specs.
Our best quality porch post material is #2 Clear Western Red Cedar. This material has virtually no knots or defects. Our 6x6 stock is one solid piece. Our 8x8 stock is usually solid, but we reserve the right to provide laminated from kiln dried 2-inch stock and bonded using waterproof glue if solid stock is not readily available. These posts are precision milled straight and square by us at our facility. The other porch post grades (with the exception of Oak) are surfaced square by others, before they arrive at our facility for turning.
We also offer laminated solid, Red Oak Porch Posts. These posts are intended for stain grade INTERIOR use. If you are looking for exterior posts check our Cedar and Douglas Fir posts. We can also custom quote other hardwood species or posts laminated for exterior use.
Our Douglas fir porch posts are made from a solid, single piece of wood—that means no laminations. The grade is Select Structural FOHC (free of heart center). Grades that allow heart center tend to twist and split considerably more than "free of heart center" products. The posts are KD (kiln dried to 19% or better). The Select structural FOHC grade allows non-structural knots and splits. These posts have about double the load bearing capacity of cedar. The main benefits of our Douglas fir porch posts are their low cost, structural capacity and quick turnaround time. Because the wood is already kiln dried, we can turn and ship quicker.
These hollow finger-joint Pine porch posts are the least expensive post we offer. They are made from the kiln dry scrap from door and window stock. Because they are hollow the pattern is limited by how much wood can be removed. Pine is not very decay resistant. The factory applies a special sealer to the bottom and pre-primes these posts for longer life. In addition, there is an optional quick-mount base plate available to ease installation and increase post life.
Our vinyl porch posts have a UV inhibitor similar to that used in vinyl windows. With a steel core, these posts are extremely strong.
Pagliacco Turning & Milling porch posts are made of solid wood for long-lasting strength and beauty. You can choose from one of Pagliacco's many standard patterns. If you already have an existing pattern, Pagliacco can match it from a sample, drawing or photograph.
We offer different wood species and grades for porch posts. That way you can pick the right product for your job. We also offer vinyl posts with a steel core.
Here's a comparison of the unit price for different woods. It is based on our PP19 pattern, 6x8 nominal dimension, when you buy 10 or more:
Species | Price |
---|---|
Pine Porch Posts* | $89 |
Douglas fir | $235 |
Laminated Red Oak for Interiors | $520 |
#2 Clear Western Red Cedar | $433 |
Vinyl Steel Core (4.25-inch x 8-foot) | $113 |
* The pine and vinyl steel core posts are not made in our shop and are a different pattern.
If that's not enough choice for you, just let us know what you want and we'll give you an estimate for your custom order. We can turn porch posts from most woods, such as hardwoods for stain grade interior use.
